(if you do not have a 0 period, we may ask you to stay later)

Location: West Field

What to bring: Number assigned to you for tryouts, light and dark shirt (gray is light), cleats, shin guards, water, if you have a 0 period or are staying until 1st period starts, bring all your school stuff.  Number assigned to you for tryouts.

On Monday, 8/26th, all players will need to pick up their number and safety pins. You may want more safety pins to attach your number to the back of your shirts, so it might be helpful to track some down now/prior to Tuesday, 8/27th.  More information will be sent out later on when and where to pick up numbers on Monday 8/26th.

All players will need to fill out the registration form for tryouts:  CLICK HERE

We know a 6am tryout is not ideal for the non-early risers, but as mentioned before, it gives us access to the most field space to be able to best evaluate players. It is also much cooler at that time of day and it gives players a break before they may need to go to club/other practice in the afternoon/evening.

Mira Costa Varsity Girls Soccer Final Record
18-3-4

March 2

"The Varsity team made history for the program, being put into the Open Division with the top 8 teams in the CIF Southern Section Playoffs.  Essentially, we were considered the top 8 in all of Southern California!  And after that impressive run in playoffs and Regional playoffs, we were 4th in all of Southern California.  That is extraordinary and a true testament to the hard work and dedication the players had to their teammates and the program!"

Mira Costa Boys & Girls Soccer selected for
CIF-SS Open Division Playoffs

by Damien Calhoun | Daily Breeze

February 3

Both teams will participate in the new playoff format that will start with a home-and-home series to see who advances in the eight-team bracket

The Mira Costa boys and girls soccer team was selected for the CIF-Southern Section Open Division, which will be have a different look than the other divisions.

The Mustangs, the Bay League champion, is the fourth seed in the new bracket, which is going to be played with a new format.

The eight team-bracket will start with a home-and-home series in the opening round. For Mira Costa, that means opening Wednesday on the road at Aliso Niguel. The series will shift to Mira Costa for Friday’s game.

At the end of the opening series, the team with the most goals scored in the series will advance.

After the opening home-and-home, the division will revert back to one-game quarterfinal (Feb. 13) and semifinal (Feb. 16) before the final, Feb. 23 at Veterans Stadium.

The other series in the Open Division: Godinez-Arlington; JSerra-San Clemente and Montclair-Mater Dei.

“It’s a little bit of a bummer, that it can’t be a bit more expansive to include more teams, but to be one of the eight, I’ll take it,” Mira Costa coach Al Brown said.

Mira Costa posted a 22-1-3 overall record and went 9-0-1 in the Bay League. The lone loss came against JSerra, who is in the bottom half of the bracket.

“The way I look at it, after 160 minutes, the better team is going to win,” Brown said. “We’re excited about it. I definitely think this is better than last year’s (Division 1 bracket) with 16 teams, single elimination.”

On the girls side, fifth-seeded Mira Costa (15-1-3, 8-1-1) won the Bay League after being one of three teams from the South Bay on the recent watch list, survived the cut.

Mira Costa’s only loss this season came to Palos Verdes (1-0) in the first round of Bay League play. The Mustangs went 6-0-1 after that loss to win the league title.

The Mustangs will open Thursday at home against Long Beach Millikan. The second game will be played at Millikan, Feb. 10.

The other quarterfinal series include: Oaks Christian-Santa Margarita, Los Alamitos-Capistano Valley and Mater Dei-Santiago/Corona.

The girls quarterfinals are Feb. 14 and semifinals are Feb. 17.

Both the girls and boys Open Division final will be played Feb. 23 at Veterans Stadium.
